One day they rescue Nita, a girl who is the sole survivor of a boating accident, and take her in. Jack and Nita fall in love and are eventually married, and Bill decides to return home to his mother. As he approaches his home, he is accosted by the town sheriff, who long ago pledged eternal gratitude to Bill. Running toward his home, Bill is shot by the sheriff, but lives long enough to greet his sick mother, who dies just before him.
